Leadwood forms part of The Rietspruit Nature Conservancy, which covers 5,444 ha. with the magnificent Northern Drakensberg as backdrop. Here you will find a host of plains game including Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Wildebeest, Nyala, Kudu, Bushbuck, etc.
Iconic wildlife such as White and Black Rhino and Elephant roam freely on the reserve alongside healthy predator populations such as Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Spotted and Brown Hyena. Wild Dog are occasionally seen.

Panorama route

Situated in the shadow of the majestic “ Mariepskop” this unique Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is a home to many of South Africa’s abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife. Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is proud of its efforts in wildlife education in South Africa.
The Centre has a long standing and successful Serval Breeding Project and more than 160 have successfully been reintroduced to areas where they have become extinct. The center is actively involved in research on the movement and behaviour of leopards and also on a number of vulture species that are monitored daily at the “vulture restaurant”.
HESC has been registered in South Africa as a cheetah breeding centre by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
The ethos that underpins their wildlife conservation programmes is to release captive-bred and rehabilitated animals back into the wild to sustain the species. They are proud of the many captive-bred cheetahs, rehabilitated rhinos and many other smaller animals that have been released to roam free in the wild again.


Hoedspruit Reptile Centre (HRC) is one of the oldest and most well-known reptile centres in Africa, having been in operation since 1984. Their mission is to conserve all reptile and amphibian life. To achieve this, they follow and uphold their ethos of “conservation through education and research”.
It has grown from humble beginnings into a hub of innovative learning. It is a well-respected conservation, training and education facility.
HRC is an accredited facility that is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of African reptiles and amphibians.
Experience the magic of lighter-than-air flight near the foot of the Drakensberg Escarpment.
One-hour long flights over the scenic, Lowveld section of the Blyde River, 15 km West of Hoedspruit are offered. The terrain is a mixture of farmland, private nature reserves and wildlife estates. The mountains to the South and West provide shelter from the prevailing winds, thereby affording good flying weather on most days. As the sun rises, the landscape, the vegetation and, if you’re lucky, some wildlife will provide photo opportunities.


The Magoebaskloof is a green gulche with beautiful nature. Many adventurous activities are offered for adults and children. The famous “sliding” takes you over the Letaba river, waterfalls and treetops.

The Magoebaskloof is 140 km from Hoedspruit, direction Tzaneen.
The Big Swing, Ziplines, The Cliff Walkway, the Suspension Bridge, or a Jungle walk, there is plenty adventure in Graskop Gorge. Or watch other thrill seekers while enjoying a cool drink at the bar.


On Zandspruit Boulevard you find the sparkling Padel & Sport center. With two courts, a bar and beer garden. Work on your back hand and relax with a cool drink afterwards. Reservations required.
On Drakensig Golf Club you overlook the Kleine Drakensbergen while enjoying the South African sun. The club is open every day from 08:00 to 15:00. 9 or 18 holes is entirely your choice. Golf carts are offered for rent.
